Get Outside While Staying Safe

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

As COVID 19 became more severe, many state governments issued stay at home orders. As a result, the use of trails and outdoor Spaces has increased dramatically across the country as individuals and families look to these resources for daily physical activity and mental relaxation after COVID 19. As business, social, and cultural centers in the United States close their doors to a coronavirus pandemic, many public health experts have discussed the importance of being outdoors -- as long as we maintain a safe social distance. When you want to do outdoor activities, you should first keep a safe distance between people. The official safe distance is six feet (Amy,2020). So when you want to go outside during a pandemic, it's best to stay at least six feet away from people. Of course, if you want better protection, I suggest you try wearing a mask.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people cover their noses and mouths with cloth during community events (Amy,2020). Since one of the major transmission routes of pandemics is saliva transmission, you need to cover your nose and mouth with something to prevent saliva transmission before you are ready for outdoor activities. My suggestion is that when you choose to go out, you can choose a surgical mask or you can use a homemade cloth mask. However, when you use a cloth mask, because it is not a disposable mask, you must carry out proper disinfection after use to ensure that the virus will not remain. At the same time, after going out activities, return to the indoor or car should be the first use of hand sanitizer or hand sanitizer to disinfect the hands, before washing the best hands do not touch the face, especially the eyes and nose.

In addition, proper outdoor exercise can improve health and quality of life. Reasonable and appropriate outdoor exercise also contributes to the healthy development of children's bones, the strengthening of immunity and cardiopulmonary function of the health. Can according to climatic condition, take part in some outdoor physical exercise appropriately. In non - epidemic area open and ventilated place, outside activities can not wear masks. When going out for activities, must pay attention to keep warm according to the temperature conditions, children outdoor activities should pay attention to the amount of activity, to avoid high intensity activities after the wind and cold.

Outdoor activities, as far as possible to reduce close contact with others, avoid huddle chat, communication, should wear a mask. Children should be accompanied by a guardian to go out activities, the guardian should ensure the children's personal hygiene, if the use of public toys and facilities should pay special attention to hand hygiene, urged children in the game, do not touch the mouth, eyes, nose. When outdoors, do not spit, sneeze or cough with tissue or elbow cover the mouth and nose. Secretions or spitting are wrapped in tissue paper and disposed of in the garbage bin. Beneficial outdoor activities are a way to reduce anxiety and exercise during pandemics. However, it is necessary to keep a distance from outside activities and wear a mask when necessary, and wash hands when going out and returning to the room.
