You are probably aware that music could boost your mood but did you know there is scientific evidence backing the fact that music is a form of therapy? Music therapy is “a form of healing that uses music to provide care to patients… The beauty of music therapy is that it helps people in a physical, mental, emotional and social way” (Dr. Williams, 2019).

College is filled from stress, both inside and outside of the classroom. If you're wondering how to tackle this turn to this safe method of releasing tension. Are you not convinced yet? Studies have shown that students who engage with music in some way can reduce their heart rate and blood pressure (Kallye, 2017). Anyone from college students, to cancer patients, can feel the effects of music therapy.

Music that can be used for music therapy may vary. There is no one type of music to use; it depends on the individual. Listening to any song can help you analyze your emotions or rather unwind from a stressful day. An essential part of music therapy is self- expression. Choose music that you like! “Stress, anxiety, and depression do not have to be a burden, and neither does the healing process. Music therapy offers a healthy and accessible outlet for students, and can even create fun, and supportive communities students can engage in” (Kallye, 2017). So the next time you are stressed, try this healthy technique to reduce it!
